I was just wondering what to write when my phone made a familiar sound and seconds later I was hit with a rush of Dopamine. Dopamine is the chemical released by the body to create the ‘feel good’ sensation.

In one sense, all of EML’s research is about optimising your dopamine levels by encouraging you to do more of the things that make you feel good and so enjoy your life to the full. Seeing friends, exercising, learning something new, achieving a goal all produce dopamine. I am reminded of Alan Wicker’s advice to Michael Palin as he set out around the world for the first time ‘Any fool can be uncomfortable, the secret is to always make yourself as comfortable as possible’.

My dopamine hit came from a new offer on an item I’m selling on eBay. It’s not the money that is so pleasing, its finding a home for something I no longer need – and having one less item to store!
